In a few days time my favourite source of online tabloid trash, gossip and nonsense becomes a pay to view site. From the 1st August The Sun will only be viewable to paid subscribers.
Now I know a lot of you will read this and think who the hell cares? The Sun is a load of corrupt manipulative shit anyway and you'd be right. It is. But in the same way that the odd Spicy Curry Pot Noodle is a guilty pleasure so is my daily morning browse of the online paper with a cup of coffee and a toasted crumpet.
So will I pay to view this internet version of Britain's favourite rag? Well...like hell I will. The whole point of the net is freedom of information with the emphasis on "free." Online newspapers make more than enough money from sponsorship, advertising and their hard copy counterparts. They don't need to charge for online versions and any attempt to do so smacks of greed.
There are plenty of alternatives to choose from. The Mirror is still free, as is The Mail, The Telegraph, and BBC news 24. And lets face it, they all print the same damn stories anyway.The only difference between them is the political spin they each choose to put on it.
My final message then to Mr Max Clifford is not au revoir because I certainly don't care if we ever meet again. It isn't auf wiedersehen because I certainly don't care if Max does indeed "farewell".
My final message to The Sun is;
Well fuck off then you bunch of money grabbing bastards 'cause I'll be damned if I'm giving you any of my hard earned cash to read a load of unsubstantiated bullshit and speculation every day you greedy bunch of money grabbing tossers!
