"Screw the People" Trend: As times get even tougher and people get even poorer, the "authorities" will intensify their efforts to extract the funds needed to meet fiscal obligations.
One year later: In the two-tier American justice system, the long arm of the law only reaches down to the low hanging fruit. Banks are slapped with slap on the wrist fines for billion dollar crimes, and like Jon Corzine, no crime time. But swift justice is readily dealt out for small time crimes. From closing down lemonade stands operating without a license to swat teams busting raw foods cooperatives, in America, Justice means "just us!"
"Students of the World Unite" Trend: "University degrees in hand yet out of work, in debt and with no prospects on the horizon, young adults and 20-somethings are mad as hell, and they’re not going to take it anymore."
One year later: Occupy Wall Street is just one of the scores of worldwide student protest movements, some of which have proven powerful enough to bring down governments.
"Crackdown on Liberty" Trend: A national crusade to "Get Tough on Crime" will be waged against the citizenry. And just as in the "War on Terror," where "suspected terrorists" are killed before proven guilty or jailed without trial, in the "War on Crime" everyone is a suspect until proven innocent.
One year later: TSA strip searches of little old ladies; Obama backs bill "authorizing indefinite military detention of U.S. citizens."
"Journalism 2.0" Trend: With its unparalleled reach across borders and language barriers, "Journalism 2.0" has the potential to influence and educate citizens in a way that governments and corporate media moguls would never permit.
One year later: Aleksai Navalny, an imprisoned young Russian blogger/Twitterer with some 200,000 followers, is "credited with mobilizing a generation of young Russians through social media, a leap much like the one that spawned Occupy Wall Street and youth uprisings across Europe this year."
"Cyberwars" Trend: The demonstrable effects of Cyberwar and its companion, Cybercrime, are already significant – and will come of age in 2011. Equally disruptive will be the harsh measures taken by global governments to control free access to the web, identify its users, and literally shut down computers that it considers a threat to national security.
One year later: Iran proudly displayed a sleek, white U.S. drone that was used for spying on Iranians; Iranians were able to capture what US military officials privately told Bloomberg was a Lockheed Martin RQ-170 by hacking into its security code; PayPal shuts off service to WikiLeaks.

(NaturalNews) The coming new year which is 2012, also happens to be the name of a 2009 Hollywood disaster film in which a lucky few survivors, mostly political leaders and the very rich, board huge insulated arks to ride out a massive civilization-destroying tsunami. As the real 2012 approaches, pop culture speculation continues to fashion an apocalypse-almost-now out of misinterpretation of the Mayan calendar.
For those of us less prone to anxiety, perhaps 2012 offers an opportunity to begin a new era-- which is actually what the Mayan calendar predicts. We can act to make our own lives and the lives of others in our community healthier and happier. We can act to ensure that politicians and the wealthy lose the insulation which permits them to ride an ark of selfish indifference, ignoring the problems created by corporations plundering both human and environmental resources.
Misinterpreting the Mayan Calendar Our calendar measures time in terms of years, decades and centuries. The basic unit of the ancient Mayan calendar was the 360-day tun, which, like our own 365-day years, is roughly equivalent to one revolution of the earth around the sun. Twenty tuns form a k'atun and twenty k'atuns (or 400 tuns) become a bak'tun. In our calendar, a bak'tun equals roughly 395 years. The ancient Mayan Long Count calendar covers a period of 13 bak'tuns, which will end approximately around the winter solstice of 2012. In Mayan cosmology, an earlier era preceding their calendar lasted for 13 bak'tuns and ended through natural transition rather than through devastation and destruction. They did not predict the end of the world with the passage of 13 bak'tuns, but a turning of an era, similar to our calendar shift from 1999 to 2000.
Is it Doomsday again? The Mayan calendar and 2012 form the latest hook upon which some people want to hang their doomsday forebodings. Some of the previous occasions are within recent memory. End of the world predictions occur with regularity. Twice in 2011, 90-year old evangelical minister Harold Camping predicted the end of the world based on his own mathematical calculations, first on May 21 then on October 21. Nearly thirty years ago, Pat Robertson told his millions of television viewers that the Second Coming would take place 1982.
Doomsday predictions are not a recent phenomenon. In 1843, a preacher from upstate New York, William Miller, persuaded over 50,000 followers that Christ would return, bringing the end of the world in 1843. Like Harold Camping, Miller had to revise his prediction, with his followers awaiting a re-scheduled end of the world in 1844, leading to what history books term the Great Disappointment. A massive volcanic explosion in Iceland in 1783 covered much of Europe in poisonous clouds causing crop failure and starvation. The natural disaster and subsequent tragedy led some observers of the day to predict the imminent end of the world. Many Christians in Europe spent the night preceding January 1, 1000 in church praying, awaiting the Last Judgment.
Recycling Doomsday emotions End-time predictions provide a sense of heightened drama which can help people feel their lives are more imbued with meaning as time ticks down to a purported end. Doomsday scenarios also offer a hope of redressing injustices whether through a Last Judgment or through some brave new world forged by a few survivors. The key point to grasp is the emotions which make doomsday scenarios attractive can be harnessed to create positive change. We all have the choice every day to view our lives with a sense of greater meaning without recourse to "the end is nigh" thinking. We all have the option now to participate in social justice movements, or environmental causes, or efforts to re-create the food and health systems which are slowly poisoning huge numbers of people.
Next time you read or hear a prediction that the world is ending, take some time to think of actions you can take to help re-make the world. Don't let yourself be frightened by the scope of the problems -- give yourself permission to take small steps. But don't be afraid to think big and to build alliances with other people to make your actions resonate more loudly. If enough people act, 2012 can be the "end of the world" for corporate greed and exploitation of the environment, the middle class, and the poor.
Every aspect of our lives is being controlled. From the moment we open our eyes every morning we spend the rest of our day in servitude to another. None of us are truly free.
Different countries may have different governmental systems but the ultimate aim of each one, be it democratic, communistic, imperial, or sovereign, is to encourage free thinking human beings to trade true freedom in return for what we are fooled into thinking are life's necessities.
Without money we are brainwashed into thinking existence is impossible. Without money we cannot eat. Without money we cannot pay rent or utility bills. Without money we cannot buy meaningless little trinkets to place on our mantlepiece. Yet humankind managed to prosper for thousands of years without ever producing a single gold coin...Why or when did we all forget how to plant a seed? Or to raise a cow?
In school our education is supposedly geared towards ensuring we all become productive members of society but to what extent is that really true? To what extent does the education that our Governments tell our teachers is compulsory really shape us into people working towards the common good of the society rather than a select group of ruling elite? How many comprehensive school children ever rise up to become World leaders?
Almost 20 years of our lives is spent in a classroom of some kind where we learn to become Doctors, Lawyers, Policemen, Civil Servants, and, in fact, any position of any kind of employment you can think of all with one common peculiarity. They all exist to serve another.
The world's problems are easily solved but those in power have successfully created a smokescreen to hide us all from The Truth. That we need rely on nobody, ultimately, but ourselves.
We have had the knowledge it takes to survive for thousands upon thousands of years. There is no need for money. Communities need only harvest together and share the spoils. There is no need for any utilities. We have the technological knowhow to build our own generators and sanitation systems. There is no need for healthcare. Nature provides remedies for every ailment in abundance.
We are a skilled race. It is time for us to return to using those skills for the common good instead of a ruling elite.
On the other hand, for the majority of those that bother to read this blog, it's probably less hassle to simply switch Corrie on and to shove a lasagna in the microwave.
The harsh reality is that there is no real turning back. Of course that is not to say that little pockets of self serving communities cannot exist but as a race Mankind is doomed. It has already allowed itself to be enslaved forever.

We are controlled, every aspect of our lives is manipulated to serve the elite, we walk blindly into slavery. I hope that more and more people wake up before our time runs out. As you say Oli, we don't need money to survive, we need communities working together for the good of all. We certainly don't need Oil to survive, oil only serves to help the elite survive and keep us in servitude.
If people don't wake up and see what is happening very soon, there will be no future for their children, grandchildren and future generations. Switch off that TV that keeps you so dumbed down and take a look around at the real world.
Great to see you "Get it" Oli, now a few billion more need to stop sleep walking into misery.

I'm not sure if this is a genuine video, it doesn't seem to be an 80's type recording? Are his clothes sort of 1980? Will try find out his name, that may shed more light on the interview. Also, he has lived in California since early 80's, yet he is speaking French? Anyone can shed light on this, would be very much appreciated.
