The European Courts of Human Rights today ruled that Britain must release Abu Qatada and that plans to deport him to Jordan would be in contravention of The Human Rights Act.

If ever there was a time for Britain to make a stand and to claw back some sovereignty from Brussels this is clearly it. Britain must take control of it's own judicial affairs. Qatada lost his Human Rights in Britain the moment he decided to preach hatred towards it's citizens. The fate of Qatada is not the concern of Brussels. It is the concern of every law abiding person living in Britain and the only welfare the judiciary need protect is theirs. There is allegedly a danger of Qatada being tortured upon his return to Jordan. Perhaps such atrocity may force him to realise that there are far more evil men in this world than us western infidels?

The legal precedent such a ruling sets does not bode well. It sends a clear message out to every hate preacher living in Britain that they have a green light to spout whatever vitriol they desire. To send such a message is not only morally wrong but also consitutionally wrong.

Many people do not realise that in Britain there is no such lawful right of free speech. We have no written constitution and no Bill of Rights. We do not support free speech in this country and we never have because we understand that words, despite proverb, do in fact hurt. They can hurt very much because the power of words can compel a free thinking man into buying the household goods necessary to make a bomb and to harm innocent people. We have a duty to protect the public from this by ensuring that certain material is never lawfully aired.

The solution is simple. We need simply say No to Brussels. We need only tell them that we appreciate their advice but on this occasion we'll do whatever we think is best for our country thank you very much. Can you imagine somebody like Putin kowtowing to Brussels demands on Russian judicial rulings? It doesn't happen because Brussels learnt long ago to whom they can dictate and to whom they can't. For too long Britain has been the cesspit of Europe because we lack a leader strong enough to stand up and say Europe right now needs us a great deal more than we need them.

Hypothetically speaking it is difficult to foresee what negative consequences might arise from such an action. Explusion from the EU? Hardly likely when Sarkozy and his minions are begging Britain for millions in aid every other month. Sanctions on trade rights? Britain is one of the highest importers of European goods in the world. The reason we import so much is because we don't make anything ourselves anymore. We could easily take our custom elsewhere however. Restrictions on employment? Well thats a double edged coin. I wonder how much the French will like a sudden explosion in Polish builders on their doorstep?

When America catches a terrorist they send him to Guantanemo Bay. When we catch one we give them their own condo in Mayfair and a monthly living allowance. Something is seriously wrong here.

Sadly this is all hypothetical. The chances of the coalition developing a backbone are on a par with Qatada converting to Judaism. No doubt within a fortnight he'll be back on the streets of London brainwashing more impressionable young Muslims into believing that the text of a 2000 year old document still holds some relevance in Western society today.

Brilliant blog Oli, like Dazza, I totally agree with every word. If Brussels is so concerned with this HATE preachers welfare, let them take him, let them pay his overstuffed benefits, let the taxpayers of Brussels work their asses off to keep this piece of sub-human garbage. The scum isn't British he isn't English. The EU want to make laws for the UK they should practise what they preach and take all the scum they think should be allowed to stay in the UK, let them take care of the bottom feeding pond scum.
